HUBUNGAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN PERAWAT DENGAN KECEPATAN TINDAKAN PENANGANAN PASIEN GAWAT DARURAT
Keywords:
nurses’ knowledge, response time, emergency patientAbstract
Background: The Emergency Department (ED) is a vital hospital unit that requires nurses to act quickly and accurately in handling emergency patients. Nurses’ knowledge is an important factor influencing the speed and accuracy of emergency care. The ED response time standard requires that emergency patients must be treated within 5 minutes upon arrival. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge level and the speed of emergency patient management in the ED of Sinjai General Hospital.
Methods: This was an analytic quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted at the ED of Sinjai General Hospital in 2024. The population and sample consisted of 21 ED nurses (total sampling). Knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire, while response time was observed and categorized as fast (≤5 minutes) or slow (>5 minutes). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05.
Results: Most respondents were female (71.4%) and held a Diploma in Nursing (57.1%). Nurses’ knowledge levels were categorized as high (47.6%), moderate (38.1%), and low (14.3%). A total of 76.2% of nurses demonstrated fast response times, while 23.8% were slow. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between knowledge level and response time (p = 0.004), indicating that nurses with higher knowledge levels tended to respond faster in emergency patient management compared to those with lower knowledge.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nurses’ knowledge level and the speed of emergency patient management in the ED of Sinjai General Hospital.Continuous education and emergency training programs are recommended to ensure that the ED response time standard (≤5 minutes) can be consistently achieved.
